Tie Watch 2008-2009 Update
As the Emerald Knights boys basketball team prepares for sectional tournament play, donations to Coaches vs. Cancer have topped $1,000!
Also, be sure to check out the Post-Standard Neighbors section Thursday. It is supposed to carry a feature and photos on Coach Rhyde and the tie project.
Donation update ...
Coach Rhyde announced at Senior Night last night that donations have topped $900. He hopes to top $1,000 and seems certain to as the sectionals loom.
Why these ties matter
Wearing wacky ties is more than just a great way to raise money to fight cancer. Dave Rhyde said it is a great way to raise awareness.
Consider it properly raised, Coach.
Before the Westmoreland game last week, Rhyde was discussing the prevalance of the disease in even a small community like Hamilton. Closer to home, Rhyde said that four members of this year’s varsity basketball team have...
And Now, This Musical Interlude ...
Monday night’s home game vs. Waterville saw the debut of the Coaches Vs. Cancer Infinite Playlist Memorial Warmup Mix Tape … or something like that.
Folks contributed to Coaches Vs. Cancer for the honor of having the song of their choice included in the pregame music play for the JV and Varsity games against Waterville.
See the entire playlist.

Tuneful New C vs. C Project Lurks
It has become part of the game for basketball teams to take to the floor for pregame warm-ups with some sort of ear-drum splitting, barely comprehensible musical (?) accompaniment.
Dr. Dave Haswell, the man behind the ties, wants to harness the power of the pre-game music to raise even more funds for Coaches Vs. Cancer.
Haswell said Tuesday night that during Coaches vs. Cancer week at HCE later...
Tie Watch Enters 2009
Coach Dave Rhyde was resplendent in a tie covered with Disney characters (donated by Dr. Ray & Ellen Meeks) when his Emerald Knights downed Sherburne-Earlville at home last night.
It is easy to see he enjoys the outstanding support the community is showing for the unique fundraising project created by Dr. Dave Haswell. Rhyde said he received a $50 contribution from a patient of Haswell’s who...

Donations Adding Up
Hamilton folks are a generous lot. Even moreso if it means HCS boys basketball coach Dave Rhyde wearing hmmmmmm unique ties.
Rhyde reports that folks have donated some $230 to Coaches vs. Cancer just to see Dapper Dave wear a tie of their choosing.
And, the season is only five games old …
Tie Is Back On
Over the holidays, Tie Watch 2008-2009 has been slowed because Hamilton Central Schools basketball Coach Dave Rhyde has had no games at which to wear a tie.
The streak mercifully ended Friday when he wore atie supplied by Dana and Linda Chapman. The occasion: an outstanding 52-36 HCS win in the Morris Holiday Tournamewnt.
Rhyde said the holidays have also caused a backlog of cravats. Seven are...
Tie Watch Begins
Hamilton Central Schools boys basketball coach is wearing a different tie each game thos season. The ties are gifted by Emerald Knights fans and are accompanied by a donation to Coaches vs. Cancer.
The idea was created by Dr. David Haswell, whose son Josh plays for the Emerald Knights.
Coaches vs. Cancer has long been a favorite cause of Coach Rhyde and his wife Debbie. It became personal when...
